1 Kings Chapter 2: A Changed Heart and Posture “Follow the Lord’s commands and regulations with all my heart. Take courage, observe the requirements, and follow His ways.” The Scripture reminds me that time does not erase judgment. A posture without repentance will lead to death, and a life without peace. This Scripture reminds me of the importance of true reverence and repentance. Adonijah was put to death. In the previous chapter, 1 Kings chapter 1, Solomon spared Adonijah from death after he clung to the altar. Solomon gave him instructions and stated that he would live if he really changed his ways. Adonijah agreed, but was his agreement truly out of reverence and repentance, or was it out of desperation? How many times have we pleaded and begged for a different outcome or a change in our circumstances? In those moments, we may make an agreement with God that we are going to change our ways. We promise that things will be different. But once the circumstance changes, we sometimes revert back to the same patterns and behaviors we had before. An agreement made out of desperation without a changed heart will not produce lasting transformation. But an agreement made with a truly changed heart and posture leads to life, peace, and abundance. God is not simply looking for our promises in moments of fear. He desires true repentance, reverence, obedience, and a heart that has genuinely turned toward Him. - HispromiseButterfly
